Found a room
03:29
|
|||
Found a room where I can meet the moon
It’s right under the roof and the storm breaks through
Sometimes it rains a little hard
And that old damn roof might fall apart
But I might stay here a little longer
Well I hear each one of us has all the keys
To peace and pain to all an old man sees
But I must have left mine in the bar
In an ashtray with cigars
And I hear the porter laughing at me
From the other side of me
Saying “Stay down here a little longer”
Well you’re always knocking on someone’s door
But you won’t knock on mine no more
Now I’m letting blind dice guide my life
And if it turns out wrong I’ll roll them twice
I’m barely even older
Just a little colder
And I’ll stay down here a little longer
Well accidental merriment is fine
And I hear it happens all the time
But I’ve never been in an accident
That breaks your bones or makes life pleasant
Maybe I’ll drink another glass
Drive my car until I crash
'Cos I might stay here a little longer

Mean old blues
03:36
|
|||
Hey girl won't you call me up
Well we've been acting quite strange but I don't mind
Hey sun won't you come on out
I'm used to rain but I could do with a change
Oh and if you don't
Well no harm done
And I won't let these mean old blues get to me
Bring me down and I'll stand right up
And I won't let them make a fool out of me
Well you can kick me if you want but I'll move right on
Hey girl this is where we split
Well I never quite knew how to deal with it
Maybe some day I'll think it though
Buy a second hand car and start anew
Oh but until that day
Well don't you come my way
Well every now and then things come your way
Saying look here man there comes another day
Oh and sure enough this world is spinning round
As I watch the sun rise one more time
And this is how
I cope somehow

Long boots
04:38
|
|||
The other day she came this way through dust and cold rain
The broken sky the fallen kites it all seemed the same
And she was wearing shades of blue and her long boots
Smoke rose from the road and it shone just like gold
And I’m out of breath but still I try to name you
And my hands are weak but still they wish to hold you
I’m out of breath but still I try to name you
Oh why won’t you
She’s got a scar on her arm the blade of a storm
The ocean wave reflects the grey the girl has been warned
A deeply sunken silhouette walks on sharp slate
It’s rusted and it’s wet she closes the gate

Richmond bay
04:01
|
|||
It’s a beautiful day
Hope it stays this way
Lovers walk two by two down Richmond bay
I’ve got time on my hands
Things to mend
I know how to keep myself busy all through the day
And then she comes in the evening
She stays ’til the morning
And I know where I’ll be standing when I hear that doorbell ring
Here’s the new season
Of last year’s sensation
But I won’t give it too much thought
I’ve got my own things to do
Apple trees need pickin’
Potatoes need diggin’
I ain’t gonna waste no time
On what they think I ought to do
I’ve got friends in the city
They say they could come on by
I’d sure like to see them
But I get along just fine
My hands have hardened
Working in the garden
My shoulders have gone red from working in the sun
Time is passin’
The clock it needs windin’
Reminds me everytime of what’s been there and gone

All of this talking
04:51
|
|||
The street lights are burning bright
The day has turned to night
There’s something on your mind
Almost all the time
Is the moon high in the sky
Have you not been sleeping right
Is it something someone said
That’s stuck in your head
And all of this talking
Is leaving me thinking
Where we’re heading
And all of this talking
Is leaving me thinking
Where we’re all going
We spent so many nights
Trying to make things right
We’ve left our meals go cold
Just so we could talk
Do you know where you will be
And if there’s room enough for me
Do you know if life is good
In this future that you choose
And all of this talking
Is making me weary
I wish it didn’t reach me
Yeah all of this talking
Is doing my head in
I need a good lie in
I know your point of view
And mine is known to you
Is there really much to gain
In going through it all again
There ain’t no moon tonight
The stars are all in sight
We could keep our thoughts inside
Just be together for a while

Balconies
04:43
|
|||
Whiskey and cabarets on the boulevards
Angels and actresses writing autographs
And I've been worried sick
Trying to make the most of it
Of every single bit
But the ashtray's full and the coffee's cold
Though they're hard to see there are trees on the horizon
Am I wrong to think by night I will have reached them
I see you plain as day now you're out of sight
Your sky-high balconies your immaculate pride
And I've been worried sick
Trying to keep a hold of it
Of every little bit
I left you hours ago when the sun was low
A suitcase and a drum an old autograph
A new pair of shoes and a steel guitar
And I've been worried sick
Man where have you been
Long time no see
Where we'll be tomorrow we don't need to know

Boat song
04:44
|
|||
Wax and leather make my coat
From rope and wood I’ve made my boat
The open sea seems pretty close
As I push myself away from the coast
My thoughts linger on this land
Where I have spent most of my time
My mind is somewhere in the room
Where I have spent so many afternoons
I saw a man come in one time
His eyes were tired just like mine
He shook the hands of his friends
As one by one they turned and walked away
I saw a woman at the door
Her eyes were staring at the floor
She said the words that people use
Are one by one distorted and misused
Now I’ve been told it’s no big deal
Take what’s there or take your leave
My choice is made and I’m quite sure
That I’ll take my chances on another shore
And I could use the peace and quiet
To go through all that has been gathered
Of all the things I’ve kept from home
I’ll chew the fruits and spit out all the stones
Wax and leather make my coat
From rope and wood I’ve made my boat
I threw a line into the sea
I’m guessing just to see what comes to me

Restless
04:05
|
|||
Oh lord it’s such a shame
All this time gone to waste
We play the hands we have
We try and keep the pace
And I’ve been kind of low
The feeling just won’t go
And ain’t it just my luck
To hear my time is up
I’m standing on the landing
I think I’m hearing birds sing
A cool breeze against my cheeks
I haven’t felt this good in weeks
I’ll leave without a sound
I’ll soon be out of town
I need the open road
I just feel that’s what I’m owed
Restless I’ve been restless
Staring at departure boards
Letters change
To cities names
I see people climb on board
Restless I’ve been restless
There’s little that I own
But in the eyes
Of passers-by
I catch a glimpse of someone’s home
I’ve been sleeping in the meadows
The clouds won’t leave the ground
Though all my dreams feel kind of hollow
I know that in the morning I’ll be fine
I climb the highest hill
I do it for the thrill
And all the way back down
I just go round and round
The day has just begun
I’m yet to see the sun
What if it don’t turn up
Well ain’t it just my luck

Burgundy
03:54
|
|||
Got a few coins in my pocket
To get me on a bus to Burgundy
I figured I’d be out of here some day
It’s just I didn’t know when that would be
And I was liking every bit
The way you breathed in the morning air
And how I liked it when I found you there
And I'd be lying if I said
I couldn't care less if I have to go
I couldn't care less if I have to go
But isn’t it good news baby
Isn't it good news now
Isn't it good news baby
Staring at the ceiling in a motel room
I reckon I’ll be staying here another day
Told the girl at the reception desk
If someone calls just say I’m away
And now that I think of it
The way I breathe in the morning air
Is no different to when you were there
And is it lying if I say
I couldn't care less if I had to go
I couldn't care less if I had to go
But isn’t it good news baby
Isn't it good news now
Isn't it good news baby
Got myself a black leather coat
To wear outside when the weather's cold
And if you’re looking down on me
I ain't asking for no sympathy Lord
I ain’t asking for no sympathy
I hear the sound of an engine starting
I see the light of a new moon rising
Oh boy won't you pour me a few more drinks
Well you know how I've been missing all these things

You treat me so kind
03:48
|
|||
I see you left a note for me
In the gap beneath my door
It says you’d like to see me more
Well it swept me off my feet
Girl you know what pleases me
I’ll meet you when and where you please
In the pouring rain if I have to
Or beneath the sun and sky so blue
You treat me so kind mama
You always find the time
To let me in mama
You’re always on my mind
You treat me so kind mama
You always find the time
And I feel so fine
To know you’re mine
So I guess you figured me out
I find it hard to hide inside
The things I like to say out loud
And I ain’t no mystery man
You only have to take one look
And I’m like an open book
And I don’t even have to speak
For you to know just what I need
